It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
